True Magic, coming 2023
Re-enchanting Reformed Christianity—and our own lives—with a symbolic view of creation.
True Magic is aimed at re-enchanting Reformed Christianity by doing two main things:
Shining the light of scripture and nature on how heavenly patterns are expressed in the material world. In other words, we understand the physical realm as fundamentally symbolic—or, in the language of the Great Tradition, sacramental—and our focus here is on investigating how material creation participates in spiritual realities.
Working to discern how this intersection of fact and meaning should shape our practice and piety. In other words, given what we learn in scripture and nature about the visible imaging the invisible, and given that we ourselves are the image of the invisible God, how should we live so that we ourselves properly participate in these heavenly patterns, that “thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven”?
True Magic is a project of Bnonn and Smokey Tennant, Reformed Christians living in New Zealand. Bnonn attends Redwood Reformation Church in Rotorua; and he is the author of The Spine of Scripture: God’s Kingdom from Eden to Eternity, and It’s Good To Be A Man: A Handbook for Godly Masculinity.
